Health care in the United States is often very expensive, even for routine visits and services. In order to have access to comprehensive, quality health care, health insurance is truly a necessity.

The University of Pittsburgh requires all full-time international students to have and maintain health insurance while they are enrolled at the University. In addition, employees of the University are provided with health insurance as part of their compensation package.

Students and employess have the option to add their dependent family members (spouse and/or children) to any University insurance plan for an additional fee. For those in J-2 status, health insurance coverage is required by U.S. regulations. While this requirement does not exist for other dependent status, OIS strongly encourages coverage for all dependents for the duration of your stay in the United States.
