Genevieve Cook

Director, PDSO, RO

Genevieve originally joined OIS in 2006 as an Immigration Specialist and is currently serving as Director after previously serving as Associate Director. Prior to working at Pitt, she worked in the Office of International Education at Carnegie Mellon University for more than 6 years. She is responsible for immigration casework, special projects, and oversight of all immigration and administrative functions of the office. Genevieve earned her bachelor’s degree in anthropology and a certificate of Latin American Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. She also has a Masters of Public Management (MPM) degree from Carnegie Mellon University.

Katy Gongaware

Office Assistant

Katy is a graduate of Allegheny College with a degree in Spanish and minor in History. As Office Assistant, Katy primarily works at the front desk where she answers the main phone, greets and assists visitors, and supports the office by performing a number of day-to-day administrative and customer service-related tasks.

Sara Jones

Associate Director, DSO, ARO

As the Associate Director, Sara leads a team of specialists to assist international students and academic departments with various immigration related requests and to provide advising, programming and related services. She manages various special projects and administrative functions of the office.

Jordan Lutz

Administrative Assistant to the Director

Jordan provides administrative support to the Director and oversees general office operations, such as procurement, financial and personnel records, and more. Prior to joining OIS, she worked in the legal department of First National Bank.

Kate Madeano

Immigration Specialist, DSO, ARO

Although a Pittsburgh native, Kate spent the last eight years in Philadelphia. She was an immigration advisor for La Salle University, then for University of Pennsylvania. Kate earned her master degree from Indiana University of PA, in the Student Affairs in Higher Education program. Kate is poised to help guide you through the complex U.S. immigration regulations to ensure your time spent at Pitt is focused on your passions and personal growth. Kate is an active member of NAFSA and welcomes inquiries about a career in international education, specifically immigration advising.

Claire Mokry

Immigration Specialist, ARO

Claire serves as an Immigration Specialist on the employment team; she handles a variety of immigration casework for academic and administrative departments throughout the University. Claire earned her bachelor’s degree in French and International Studies from Hope College and her Master’s in Public Administration from DePaul University. Prior to joining OIS, Claire worked in the Center for Global Engagement at Robert Morris University.

Shannon O’Reilly

Immigration Specialist, DSO, ARO

Shannon serves as an Immigration Specialist on the student team, advising and supporting students through immigration regulations so they can be successful at the University of Pittsburgh. Shannon is originally from Connecticut where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Business at the University of Connecticut. After completing an internship in Berlin, Germany, she returned to the US to earn her master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Deb Prvanovic

Assistant Director, DSO, ARO

Deb Prvanovic has been interacting with international students for nearly 20 years. Her initial experiences were in the mid-1990s as a volunteer chaperone and host for ESL student excursions and activities. In 2002, she officially entered the field as an advisor for international students & scholars at Kent State University. In 2006, she became Manager of International Student & Scholar Services at Kent State and took on the additional role of the University’s H-1B petition preparer. Locally, Deb has worked at both Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh as well as a local IT consulting company, serving as an immigration specialist.

Richard Sherman

Immigration Specialist, DSO, ARO

Richard joined the Office of International Services in 2012. Before arriving at Pitt, Richard served as an Assistant Director of Admissions at California University of Pennsylvania and also worked at a non-profit immigration law clinic in Portland, Maine. Richard earned his bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies and Spanish from Bowdoin College and his Masters of Arts in Latin American Studies from Indiana University. Richard serves as an Immigration Specialist on the student team, supporting international students through advising, programming and related services.

Katherine (Kati) Von Lehman

Compliance Coordinator, DSO, ARO

In her role as Compliance Coordinator, Kati works to ensure data integrity and full compliance with federal recordkeeping and reporting requirements. In addition, in her role as DSO/ARO, she assists international students and scholars with maintaining legal status while in the United States.

Jean Wenner

As an Immigration Specialist for the employment team, Jean handles a portfolio of immigration casework for academic and administrative departments throughout the University. Jean earned her bachelor’s degree in Communications from Bowling Green State University and her Master’s in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining OIS, Jean worked in Chonburi, Thailand and at the University of Idaho in the International Programs Office.

Alison Zappa

New Student Specialist, DSO, ARO

Alison is a Penn State alum with her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and minors in Economics and International Business. She is currently enrolled in graduate courses at Pitt and is planning to earn her Master’s Degree in Health, Physical Activity, and Chronic Disease within the School of Education.

In her role as New Student Specialist, Alison organizes all of the incoming casework and admissions documents for the immigration specialists. She manages the student workers and ensures that office tasks are completed efficiently. As a DSO/ARO, Alison helps with processing various requests and documents.
