Neighborhood Legal Services

NLSA strives to ensure access to justice by providing free “civil” legal services to low income individuals and families. We were created to address the lack of basic legal assistance in civil matters for those without the means to hire a private attorney. While the 1963 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Gideon v. Wainwright guaranteed indigent defendants the right to counsel in criminal matters, there is at present no equivalent right for victims of violence, for those unlawfully evicted, for those unfairly denied government benefits, or for those in danger of losing a child in a custody battle. Depending on the particular civil legal problems, we may provide direct representation, advice, assistance in self-representation, brief service/limited legal assistance or referral to a private attorney (including free and reduced-fee). We also provide community education on legal topics. Free interpretation services are provided to those with limited English abilities and the hearing-impaired.

Off-Campus Living

Off-Campus Living is dedicated to providing the University of Pittsburgh community with the necessary information and tools to successfully reside in off-campus accommodations. We provide an informative Renters’ Guide, apartment listings and neighborhood descriptions, and a roommate and subletting service, as well as other useful tips and contact information to assist you in your role as tenant.

Office of Inclusion and Bleonging (OIB)

OIB hosts many of the diversity programs on campus, works with fraternities and sororities, presented the Emerging Leaders course and Panther Leadership Summit, and many additional initiatives. Specifically for international students, OIB created the Global Ties program to welcome international students and help build an international community on the Pitt campus.

Outside the Classroom Curriculum (OCC)

For undergraduate students, the OCC is a University-wide initiative that is designed to help students receive a well-rounded education; get connected to their peers and the many great resources and programs here at Pitt; and ultimately gain a competitive edge for graduate or professional schools, internships, and the job marketplace.

Panther Central

Panther Central is where you will get your Pitt identification card as well as being your resource for transportation, housing, and dining on campus.

Parking

If you plan to drive onto campus, you should visit the Parking website to get more information.

PennAEYC

To search for other day care providers, you can also check PAEYC’s web site for a NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accredited program. Childcare providers must meet high standards to earn this accreditation.

Pitt Athletics

There are a large variety of sport events you can enjoy while at the university. While football and basketball are often the most popular sports to watch, you can also find everything from gymnastics to soccer to swim meets.

The Benefits Department, within the Office of Human Resources, manages the comprehensive package of benefits that is available to faculty, staff, and others with eligible academic appointments, as well as their eligible dependents. The Department provides overall assistance on benefits-related questions and serves as the liaison between the faculty or staff member and the various insurance carriers and the retirement savings investment companies.
